Salem RidgeYaks News Release
Salem, VA (May 21, 2013) - Jeremy Farrell and Rangel Ravelo each reached base five times in Winston-Salem's 11-1 rout over the Salem Sox on Tuesday night at LewisGale Field. The Dash outhit the Sox 14-3 and dominated the series opener, with Farrell crushing three doubles and a two-run homer. Winston scored twice in the second, four times in the third, twice more in the sixth and eighth, and added one in the ninth in their easy victory.
While Farrell went 4-for-4 with a walk, Ravelo went 3-for-3 with two walks, continuing his dominance against Red Sox pitching. In three games against Salem, Ravelo has gone 7-for-8 with two walks.
Salem's offense lacked a similar punch. Brandon Jacobs doubled in the last of the second, scoring three batters later on Carson Blair's two-out single. Blair went 2-for-4 with his double in the fourth, but the Red Sox would be held without a hit over the final five innings. Even still, Salem stranded 10 men on base, taking six walks and leaving each baserunner aboard.
Chris Bassitt improved to 2-0 against Salem this season and 5-1 overall, permitting just one run on three hits over six innings, with six strikeouts and four walks. Jarrett Casey, J.R. Ballinger, and Jeremy Erban each dealt one scoreless inning of relief out of the Dash bullpen.
William Cuevas suffered the setback, falling to 1-5 on the year. He tossed a 1-2-3 first, but yielded six runs on five hits, two walks, and two hit batters in the second and third. Heri Quevedo allowed four runs on seven hits over a career-long five innings out of the bullpen for Salem.
The Sox and Dash reunite on Wednesday evening, with Henry Owens and Chris Beck squaring off in the middle game of the series. First pitch is slated for 7:05.
