Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Pensacola Pelicans are pleased to announce they will be holding a post-draft workout for prospective baseball players on June 20. The workout will be held from 9 a.m. until noon at Jim Spooner Field at Pelican Park in Pensacola, Florida. All workouts are open to the public to attend and view.

The Pelicans, a member of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball, encourage players to attend this post-draft workout. Players that feel they were overlooked in the draft are encouraged to workout. The American Association provides a good way to improve skills, increase draft stock, and continue professional opportunities.

Several of the league's players were drafted this season by Major League Baseball organizations, including first-round picks Aaron Crow (Fort Worth Cats-Seattle Mariners) and Tanner Scheppers (St. Paul Saints-Texas Rangers).

Pelican workouts have led to contracts with Major League organizations. Edwar Ramirez (New York Yankees), Santos Hernandez (Philadelphia Phillies), Tim Dorn (St. Louis Cardinals), and Charles O'Neal (Florida Marlins) all attended Pelicans workouts.

Several players on the current Pelicans' roster attended workouts before being signed as well. Bubba Nelson has emerged as a dominant force in the Pelicans' starting rotation. He attended a workout the Pelicans held earlier this year. Tyler Wilson was signed by the Pelicans as recently as June 12. Wilson made his debut two days later on the road in Grand Prairie, TX; all of it due to Wilson attending a Pelicans workout on May 30.

The Pelicans will only accept pre-registered players. Players ages 20 and above who wish to attend the workout are required to print, fill out, and return a registration form to the Pelicans office. The form can be found online at:

The Pelicans office is located at:

41 North Jefferson St.

Suite 300

Pensacola, FL 32502

Players are required to bring their own equipment.
