Sioux City Explorers News Release
Sioux City.....The Pensacola Pelicans completed the four-game sweep of the Explorers Sunday winning 14-5 at Lewis and Clark Park.
The loss drops the X's out of first place in the second half for the first time since July 14th. The Explorers are now one-half game behind Lincoln in a three-way tie for second place in the American Association North.
Sioux City got off to a quick start Sunday, scoring two runs in the first inning on RBI's by Alex Llanos and Jason Colson to take a 2-0 lead. However, the lead was short lived as Pensacola sent nine batters to the plate in the second inning and scored four runs and never looked back.
Alex Llanos led the Explorers with three RBI's and extended his hitting streak to 11-games. Chase Burch had four RBI's in a winning effort for the Pelicans, who have now won seven straight.
The Explorers used five pitchers and only one of the hurlers, Mike Phelps didn't allow a run as starter Steve Spurgeon took the loss.
Sioux City will now start a four-game series at first place Lincoln Monday before returning to Lewis and Clark Friday for a three-game series with St. Paul.
