Riding a three-game winning streak, the first place Pelicans (20-13) begin a four-game series with the Salem Red Sox at TicketReturn.com Field. Left-hander Victor Payano (2-2, 5.34) will oppose righty William Cuevas (1-3, 7.84). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. EST.

-- OVERVIEW ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are celebrating their 15th Anniversary season on the Grand Strand and are in their third season as the Advanced-A affiliates of the Texas Rangers. More than 3 million fans have attended a regular season Pelicans game since the franchise's inception in 1999. The team has won more than 1,000 regular season games in the last 15 seasons.

LAST SERIES ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans earned their first series sweep of the season Thursday, downing the Lynchburg Hillcats 12-3 at TicketReturn.com Field. The Pelicans outscored the Hillcats 23-6 in a one-sided series, improving their home record to 12-4. The first place Birds are the first Carolina League team to reach the 20-win plateau. Rougned Odor tallied three hits, knocked in three and scored four runs in support of Luke Jackson who snagged his team-leading fourth win.

SWEPT AWAY ... With Thursday's win against the Hillcats, the Pelicans earned their first series sweep of the season. It is the team's first series sweep since winning three straight against Frederick Aug. 3-5 of last season. This season, the Birds nearly swept Wilmington (April 5-7) and Winston-Salem (April 15-17) but dropped the series finale on both occasions.

QUALITY STARTS ... Myrtle Beach starting pitchers have gone at least five innings in their last eight games. Six of the eight times the starter has worked into the sixth inning. During that stretch Alec Asher struck out a career-best 11 while Nick Martinez fanned a personal-best nine.

UP NEXT ... Tonight the first 1,000 fans will receive a beach mat courtesy of Hampton Inn - Broadway at the Beach. Tomorrow will be the first of two Teacher Appreciation Nights presented by Sparks Toyota. Dennis Haskins, who played Principal Belding on the hit show, "Saved by the Bell," will be in attendance.

COACHING STAFF ... Jason Wood returns for his third season as the Pelicans skipper and his fifth as a coach in the Rangers system. He is the only Carolina League skipper to have guided his team to back-to-back postseasons in 2011 and 2012. His staff includes pitching coach Steve Mintz, hitting coach Josue Perez and assistant Humberto Miranda - all three in their first year with the Birds.
