Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Myrtle Beach Pelicans LP, which owns and operates the Myrtle Beach Pelicans Baseball Club (A/Atlanta Braves), officially announced the addition of five front office employees to the franchise's growing staff.

The recent hires include Carper Cole as the Assistant General Manager / Director of Sponsorships, Dan Kurland as the Director of Ticket Sales & Services, Jake White as the Producer of In-Game Entertainment, Kris Rutledge as the Associate Director of Ticketing, and Mike Snow as the Facility Operations Manager.

Cole, who served as General Manager for four different Appalachian League franchises including the Danville Braves (1994-1995), Burlington Indians (1995-1997), Martinsville Phillies (1997-1999), and the Martinsville Astros (1999-2001), brings a wealth of experience in upper-level management to the Pelicans front office staff.

"We are very excited that Carper has joined the team," said General Manager North Johnson. "Carper is very well respected throughout professional baseball and he'll be a vital part of helping the Pelicans achieve the success we are looking forward to having here."

Following the 1996 season Carper was selected as the Appalachian League's Executive of the Year, recognizing his outstanding work with the Burlington Indians. Then, in 1999, Cole's Martinsville Astros received the Larry MacPhail Promotional Award.

Cole returns to baseball after spending the last five years in management for Overhead Door Company of Roanoke. The University of Virginia graduate will oversee all sponsorship activity and maintain relationships with the corporate partners of the Pelicans.

"I'm looking forward to working for such a dedicated ownership group," said Cole. "I enjoyed the years I spent working in baseball before and am thrilled about the opportunity to be back."

Kurland moves from one beach town to another after serving as the Ticket Sales Manager for the Lakewood BlueClaws (A/Philadelphia Phillies) in New Jersey for the past two years. In his first year with the Pelicans Dan will be responsible for all ticketing operations. The Jersey Shore native will be entering his 7th season in professional baseball.

"I'm very excited to have earned the opportunity to work with such a wonderful staff and among great fans. Whether it's a night out with the family, the girls, the guys, or coworkers and clients, you can't beat the Pelicans Experience! We're going to have a lot of fun here at the ballpark," said Kurland.

"We are very fortunate to have lured Dan away from the Lakewood BlueClaws. Lakewood is widely known as one of the top franchises in Minor League Baseball," said Johnson. "To get someone of Dan's caliber speaks to the direction of this organization."

White becomes the first Producer of In-Game Entertainment in the history of Pelicans baseball. Jake, a native of Mount Union, Pennsylvania, made the move south to Myrtle Beach after a year with the Pelicans sister franchise, the Altoona Curve (AA/Pittsburgh Pirates). In Altoona, Jake served as a production intern during the 2006 season. With the Pelicans, Jake will oversee the club's new state-of-the-art video board, which is due to be completed prior to the start of the 2007 season. He will also coordinate all in-game entertainment.

"Jake was a top addition to the Altoona Curve and State College Spikes staff during the 2006 season, and it seemed to be a natural progression to expand his role within Greensons Baseball given his talents," said Producer of In-Game Entertainment for the Altoona Curve Matt Zidik. "A video board adds so much to the overall experience of a ballpark. Not only will it provide new types of entertainment for fans, but it also gives surrounding companies a new avenue for advertising that is unique and guaranteed to reach thousands of people every night. What you can display on the new LED video boards is limited only by your imagination. That state of the art equipment that will be at Jake's disposal will allow him to provide unlimited information to the fans throughout the game."

Rutledge, who hails from Herndon, Virginia, comes to Myrtle Beach after working the previous five seasons in the ticketing department for the Delmarva Shorebirds (A/Baltimore Orioles). During his stint with the Shorebirds he was responsible for the booking of non-baseball and baseball events within the Delmarva community. Most recently he oversaw the entire group and ticket sales effort for the Shorebirds.

Snow, who worked as the Operations Manager for the Pelicans in 2004, returns to Myrtle Beach after spending each of the last two baseball seasons with the Carolina Mudcats where he served as a Co-Director of Stadium Operations. Snow will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of Coastal Federal Field, while assisting with turf management.
