RHP Ryan Kelly (1-1, 6.10) at RHP Ryan Pressly (3-0, 2.33)
- BOTTOM FEEDERS OR WORLD BEATERS': Salem's hot start to the Carolina League season has put the Red Sox ten games over .500 a month into the campaign and atop the Southern Division. But while the Sox have raked their way to the league's best record, they've also done it against the league's worst teams. Salem has yet to play a team in 2011 with a winning record (although, to be fair, only one other team besides these two is above .500, and the Sox have only played four other teams total to this point) and has earned five of its 17 wins against the Lynchburg Hillcats, a team with the fewest wins in the circuit.
JOE'S APARTMENT: Joe Wieland's Wednesday night start put his name in the Pelicans record books. With 13 strikeouts, Joe matched Tommy Hanson's April 4, 2008 performance at Wilmington for the second-most strikeouts in a single game in Pelicans history. The righty from Reno, Nevada, a fourth-round selection in 2008 by the Rangers, dominated Potomac's lineup all evening long, whiffing Nationals batters for seven of the first nine outs he recorded and striking out 13 over his six innings. Joe K'd multiple batters in all but one inning of his night and struck out the side in the first and fifth. Each member of the Nats' order struck out once on the night against Wieland with the exxception of Eury Perez. Neither of Potomac's two hits against Joe of their three total in the 3-0 loss left the infield.
