Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
The Hillcats are continuing their trend of giving back to the community this May by wearing pink! Saturday, May 21st will be the Hillcats' 5th Annual "Swing For A Cure" Breast Cancer Awareness Night presented by the Centra Health Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer Center. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation.
Tickets for the 6:05pm game against the Potomac Nationals will be $10, with half of each ticket being donated to the fight against cancer. Plus, the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a free t-shirt! Again, the Hillcats players will boast pink and black commemorative jerseys and caps which will then be auctioned off during a silent auction throughout the game. Over 4,000 fans were in attendance at last year's event, helping the Hillcats raise over $8,500 for the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation.
In 2010, there were 207,090 reported new cases of invasive breast cancer in the United States and as many as 1 in 825 women in Virginia alone, may be diagnosed each year. The Susan G. Komen Foundation was created in 1982 by Komen's sister and has since raised $1.5 billion for research, treatments, and support for survivors.
The Hillcats would like to thank the following sponsors of the Swing For A Cure for their support and donations: Centra Health Alan B.
