Ernie Shore Field -- Winston-Salem, NC

Southern Divisional Series Game #3

SERIES AT A GLANCE: The Pelicans and the Warthogs square off in a crucial game three as the series transitions to Ernie Shore Field in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Pelicans took six of ten regular season meetings at Ernie Shore Field. The Pelicans were forced to make a roster move today as Jon Mark Owings is out for the year. The Atlanta Braves have filled his roster spot with Rome outfielder David Berres. In 77 games in Rome, he hit .241 with a home run and 21 RBIs. Owings suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder in game one of the series.

Last night, Pelicans starter Carlos Rivas was pulled after just an inning plus. The Warthogs scored four runs in the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead. Tyler Flowers hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second. The Pelicans stranded 13 runners against the Warthogs. John Ely earned the win.

TODAY'S PITCHERS: Game three will feature a left-right matchup, as the Pelicans send lefty Cole Rohrbough against right-hander Clevelin Santeliz for Winston-Salem. Neither pitcher has earned a win against the opposition this year.

Rohrbough: Making his sixth start of the season after being promoted from Rome (Low-A) on August 7th. In his last start (8/31 vs. KIN), he went six innings and allowed five hits and two earned runs. The start prior (8/26 vs. WIL), he pitched a complete game seven-inning shutout in the second game of a doubleheader. In 31.2 total innings, he has allowed 27 hits and 12 earned runs. The Carolina League is hitting .233 against Rohrbough. He has a very good strikeout to walk ratio of 28:8. Rohrbough has been solid in the first innings. He has an ERA of just 1.80.

A 22nd round draft selection of the Braves in 2006, the 21-year old Oregon native made 13 appearances and 12 starts for low-A Rome to open the season, compiling a 3-4 record with an ERA of 4.94.

Santeliz: Making his third start against the Pelicans and 16th overall for the Warthogs. Tossed a season-high seven innings in his last start of the regular season (8/30 @ FRE). In a total of 68.0 innings, he allowed 55 hits and 37 earned runs. High walk total of 48. Tied for tenth in the Carolina League in walks. In two starts against the Pelicans, he is 0-2 with 17.55 ERA. He was chased after 3.1 innings in both of his outings. In 6.2 innings, he has issued 10 walks to the Birds. With that said, the Carolina League is hitting only .224 against him. Struggles in the first innings as clear by his 7.80 ERA.

A native of Valencia, Venezuela, Santeliz made 10 relief appearance for the Barons to start the season, posting an 0-1 record and ERA of 4.41. The 21-year old signed with the White Sox at the age of 17 in 2004 and is spending parts of a second season with Winston-Salem.

NORTHERN DIVISIONAL SERIES: For a second straight game, Potomac and Wilmington needed extra-innings to decide the outcome in game two. The P-Nats once again eked out a win, this time in 10 innings. Dan Lyons had an RBI single in the bottom of the tenth to score Boomer Whiting. The P-Nats will go for the sweep in game three tonight at Frawley Stadium. They also won the series opener 2-1 in 15 innings.
