Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
OVERVIEW ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are celebrating their 15th Anniversary season on the Grand Strand and are entering their third season as the Advanced-A affiliates of the Texas Rangers. More than 3 million fans have attended a regular season Pelicans game since the franchise's inception in 1999. The Pelicans need three wins to reach 1,000 regular season wins.
YESTERDAY ... The Pelicans (11-8) scored a season-best 10 runs in a 10-3 game-three win against the Frederick Keys. Five Pelicans recorded multiple hits, including Trever Adams who turned in a three-hit, three-RBI performance. The Birds enter play having won five of their last six games and are a currently one game ahead of Winston-Salem in the southern division.
BIG WIN ... Wednesday's seven-run win was the largest margin of victory for the Pelicans since an 8-0 win against Frederick on August 10 of last season. It was the team's first double-digit outburst since an 11-2 win over Potomac on August 9, 2012.
WORKING DEEP ... Jerad Eickhoff worked 7.1 innings Wednesday, the deepest outing by a Myrtle Beach pitcher this season. He is the first Pelicans pitcher to pitch into the eighth inning since Kyle Hendricks went 7.1 innings against Wilmington last season.
THAT'S GRACE-SON ... Since being put into the leadoff role, Pelicans outfielder Chris Grayson has broken out. Grayson has been on base at least once in each of his last 10 games. During that span he has collected 12 hits, including five doubles, a triple and a home run. The Monroe, Louisiana native has been successful in six of his seven stolen base attempts in 2013 after an 81 percent (34-for-42) success rate last year.
UP NEXT ... The Pelicans continue a seven-game home stand tonight at TicketReturn.com Field. The series with Frederick wraps up with a "Thirsty Thursday" followed by postgame fireworks. It is also a Senior Slugger Night presented by AARP-South Carolina - fans who bring in two cans of food receive a coupon for a hot dog, chips and drink. Donations are going towards the Low Country Food Bank.
COACHING STAFF ... Jason Wood returns for his third season as the Pelicans skipper and his fifth as a coach in the Rangers system. He is the only Carolina League skipper to have guided his team to back-to-back postseasons in 2011 and 2012. His staff includes pitching coach Steve Mintz, hitting coach Josue Perez and assistant Humberto Miranda - all three in their first year with the Birds.
ON THE AIR ... All 140 Myrtle Beach Pelicans games in 2013 can be heard on Fox Sports Radio on the Grand Strand (AM 1050 and FM 101.9). Video for all 70 home games is avail-able online at www.milb.tv.
