Pelicans Continue Winning Streak, Now at Five Games

The Pelicans backed up an 11 run performance as they posted 11 more runs Wednesday to win the second game of this three-game series in Pensacola. With the win Rusty Begnaud improves to 2-1 on the season and lengthens the Pelicans winning streak to five games.

Pensacola wasted no time as the first two batters of the game, Rolo Avila and Carlos Mendoza, singled and moved bases with a double steal. Two groundouts by Juan Rocha and Jose Yepez scored the first two runs for the Pelicans.

In the second inning, Pensacola blew the game open scoring three runs on five hits including a double from Tim Dorn. Avila later singled to score Tim Dorn and Bo Brown.

Pelicans starting pitcher Rusty Begnaud was nearly un-hittable, throwing six innings allowing only four hits while striking out six Diablos to earn his second win on the 2006 season.

Palmer Karr scored the teams sixth run in the 4th inning. The scoring was not done as the Pelicans added one more in the 4th, three in the 6th and another two in the 7th.

Rolo Avila went 3-5 driving in three runners and scoring twice and stealing a base. Palmer Karr made two highlight diving catches in left-field and stole two bases on the night.
