
Pelicans Announce Second Youth Softball Clinic with Scrap Yard Fast Pitch

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -Due to the popularity of the previously announced youth softball clinic for Tuesday, July 24, TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark, the club will now host a second youth clinic on Wednesday, July 25, following the USA Nationals and Scrap Yard Fast Pitch exhibition game.
Young athletes will have the opportunity to learn from players and coaches at the softball clinic. The clinic will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 25. There, athletes will concentrate on pitching, hitting, fielding, catching and throwing. Registration is $100 and includes a t-shirt, lunch and a reserved box seat ticket to one of the games between the USA Nationals and Scrap Yard Dawgs (July 24 or 25). The two-game exhibition series will serve as a warm-up for the USA Softball athletes before their trip to Japan for the WBSC Women's World Championship from August 2-12. The team is highlighted by Olympic Silver Medalist and two-time WBSC Gold Medalist pitcher Monica Abbott. The left-hander, who starred at the University of Tennessee, still holds NCAA Division I records for most games pitched in a season (69), career games pitched (253), shutouts (112), strikeouts in a season (724) and strikeouts in a career (2,440), among many others. On the national level, she has recorded an ERA no higher than 0.58 in all three trips in the WBSC World Championships and went 3-0 with a 0.29 ERA in the 2008 Olympics.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. on Tuesday and 11:35a.m.on Wednesday. Following each seven-inning contest there will be a 45-minute autograph session for kids.
