Frederick Keys News Release
WOODBRIDGE, VA - The Potomac Nationals scored eighth unanswered runs to take down the Frederick Keys 10-7 on Monday afternoon at Northwest Federal Field at Pfitzner Stadium. With the loss, the Keys were forced to settle for a series split.
Trailing 2-1 after one frame, the Keys (42-53, 7-19) exploded for six runs in the second and sent all nine men to bat. With two on, Alejandro Juvier hit an RBI single, while a base knock by Daniel Fajardo loaded the bases for Cole Billingsley. He responded with an RBI base knock and T.J. Nichting followed with a two-run double to make it 5-2. An error by MLB rehabber Ryan Zimmerman brought in one more, while a double play ball put the visitors ahead by five.
From there, the Nationals (46-46, 9-16) chipped away, scoring three times in the bottom of the second off Zac Lowther. With two outs, Jack Sundberg homered while a single and an RBI double from Zimmerman made it a 7-4 game. Ian Sagdal also an added an RBI base hit to cut the deficit to two.
After a sac-fly by Rhett Wiseman in the fourth, the Nationals tied the game in the fifth on a Jakson Reetz home run to left-center off Mike Burke. Potomac then went ahead for good in the sixth. With men at the corners, Nick Banks singled home Aldrem Corredor, while Reetz hit his second longball, a two-run homer to right to stretch the P-Nats edge to three.
Following a rocky start by Kyle Johnston, Potomac received six shutout innings of two-hit baseball from the bullpen trio of Carlos Acevedo, Taylor Guilbeau and Jeremy McKinney to close things out.
Acevedo (1-1) earned the win throwing three scoreless frames of two-hit baseball. Burke (0-2) suffered the loss, surrendering five runs on nine hits in three innings. McKinney pitched a scoreless ninth to register the save.
