Pelicans Former Player, Devey, to Play For Canadian Olympic Team

The Pensacola Pelicans once again prove to be a source of good talent for not only the Major League teams but also for Olympic teams.

On Wednesday, former Pensacola Pelicans pitcher, Phil Devey, was named to the Canadian Olympic team and will represent his home country, Canada, in the 2004 summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Devey, who pitched for the Pelicans for the first part of this season, was purchased by the Seattle Mariners back in June and now pitches for the San Antonio Missions, Seattle's "AA" team. Devey was 3-1 with a league best 1.46 ERA with the Pelicans and is currently, 1-5 with a 4.50 ERA with the Missions.

The Canadian Baseball Team begins play on Sunday, August 15 at 6:30 p.m. against Chinese Taipei. The Gold Medal Game will be on Wednesday, August 25 @ 8 p.m. For the full Olympic Baseball schedule, roster and information go to: http://www.athens2004.com/.

World Ford Pelicans Baseball Camp Full

World Ford of Pensacola and the Pensacola Pelicans have partnered together to provide an instructional camp FREE of charge to the first 150 players that signed up. The World Ford Pelicans baseball camp is now full. The camp is scheduled for this Saturday, August 14th from 9am – 12 noon at Pelican Park.

More than 150 little leaguers have signed up for the morning event hoping for the chance to learn from the pros - the Pensacola Pelicans. World Ford is currently making a waiting list in the event a player cancels.

You will not be able to register for the camp on Saturday; all registration needs to be done through World Ford by calling Rich Ziemba at 266-2104 before Saturday.
