Pensacola Pelicans News Release

A strong pitching performance by Pelicans starting pitcher, Trey Stephens, couldn't get the bats going nor the Pelicans bull pen. Stephens pitched seven strong innings giving up only one run but got the no decision as the Fort Worth Cats were able to score seven runs off the Pelicans bull pen.

Stephens finished with eight strike outs, he gave up only one run on four hits in seven innings.

The game was all knotted up at zero going into bottom of the sixth when Jose G. Salas broke the tie with a solo homerun to left field giving the Pelicans the lead. That would out to be the only run Pensacola would score on the night.

That lead didn't last long, Fort Worth scored a single run of their own in the 7th inning on a Ricky Gomez single that scored Jason Radwan.

The bull pen took over for Pensacola in the 8th inning in the form of Charlie Griffin, Gerardo Casadiego and Alexis Guzman. In the final two innings, Fort Worth scored seven runs, four of which were earned, on five hits and three walks. Fort Worth was lead by John Allen who in the 8th inning hit a two run homerun making the score 8-1.

With the win, Fort Worth improves to 21-19, now only five games behind Pensacola in the race for the Central League East Division second half championship. Pensacola falls to 26-13.

The magic number for Pensacola remains at five games as these two teams face off for the third game of this series on Friday, the 13 at 7:05.
