Pelicans Sign Tate High School Graduate Derell McCall

The Pensacola Pelicans are pleased to announce the signing of RHP Derell McCall. McCall is a native of the Pensacola area, and was a graduate of Tate High School. He now resides in Cantonment, FL. McCall was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 10th round of the 2000 draft. In his first year of Rookie League ball in 2000, McCall went 5-3 with a 4.10 ERA. Last year with the Kane County Cougars of the Midwest League, McCall went 3-1 with an ERA of only 2.66 in 47.1 innings pitched. The Pelicans are excited to add him to their staff.

McCall is the third Tate High School graduate to play with the Pelicans this season. Former Pelican Erik Smallwood and current Pelican and third baseman Heath Kelly also went to Tate. The Pelicans are a hometown team, and this is evident in the local talent that make up the roster. All Pensacola natives are encouraged to join us at Pelican Park to support your local talent and your hometown team!
