Pelicans Hit the Road

The Pelicans take off on a 9 day road trip today and wrap up the first half of the regular season. Their first stop is in Jackson to take on the Senators for a four game series.

Pensacola then heads to Shreveport to play the second place Sports. The Pelicans are looking for fans who are interested in traveling to Shreveport for the final series. These games will be very important, as the winner of the first half gets an automatic bid into the end of season play-offs. If you are interested in making the trip to Shreveport for the weekend and supporting your Pelicans, please call the Pelicans office at 934-8444. The dates we play Shreveport are June 23 - 26.

Pensacola Loses Series 1-2

Close to 100 Pensacola Chamber members enjoyed great weather, a great social and game afterwards. The players, however, did not have as good a time as expected. Pensacola was held scoreless for five innings losing 11-3 and the series 1-2.

The hits kept coming for Fort Worth. Every inning they scored, they had more than one run scoring two runs in the 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th innings and scored three in the 4th. Fort Worth was lead by Terence Green who went 4-5 with a double, one run and two RBI. Denis Pelfrey, Jeremy Smith and Byron Smith also had two hits a piece.

The only runs scored for the Pelicans came in form of the long ball by Rafael Alvarez who hit a two run blast in the 6th inning and Carlos Mendoza who hit a solo shot in the 7th.

Shad Williams got the win for the Fort Worth Cats, throwing 6 innings, giving up two runs on five hits. Trey Stephens got his fifth loss of the year giving up five runs on eight hits in only four innings pitched.

Pensacola falls to 23-17, now only a half game ahead of the second place Shreveport Sports. Fort Worth

improves to 20-18, now two games back of Pensacola in the race for the East Division Championship.
