Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Jerod Edmondson knocked in a run for the fourth game in a row, but Josue Peley had a three-run home run in the next half inning to give the Quebec Capitales a 4-1 victory over the Worcester Tornadoes at Le Stade Municipal on Friday night.

Jamie Richmond earned the victory in his first start (and appearance) for the Capitales, tossing seven effective innings. The righty hurler limited the Tornadoes to four hits and one walk, giving up one run (which was earned) and striking out a handful of batters.

Walker McKinven got the loss in six innings of work, allowing four runs (all earned) on five hits and five walks. He struck out one batter, had a pair of 1-2-3 innings, and induced 10 ground ball outs.

Quebec opened the night's scoring with a bases-loaded walk by Josh Colafemina in the second inning, the second free pass issued in a row.

In the top of the fifth, Edmondson hit a two-out double to score Cameron Monger from first in front of him. After homers in consecutive games for Jerod on Tuesday and Wednesday, he has added a go-ahead two-run single and a game-tying double to his accomplishments over the last two contests.

In the next half frame though, Peley broke the tie with the hardest hit ball of the night. His deep fly gave the Capitales the final three runs of the contest. McKinven retired the next batter, Josh Garton, with a ground ball and added one more frame, ending his night with a swinging strikeout of Colafemina.

Kyle Regnault and Sean Keeler each registered a scoreless inning in the defeat, with the southpaw Regnault inducing a double play after a lead-off walk. Keeler gave up a single and a stolen base, but struck out Garton, Steve Brown and Rony Rodriguez in order to retire the side.

Game two of the series is Saturday at 7:05pm, with pre-game coverage beginning on USTREAM.tv at 6:50.
