New Jersey Jackals News Release

The only thing hotter than the weather on Friday at Yogi Berra Stadium? Jackals' starting pitcher Kyle Greenwalt.

The right-hander threw arguably his best outing of the season, striking out a season-high 11 batters in New Jersey's 3-2 victory over the visiting Newark Bears.

Greenwalt went six-and-two-third innings, allowing just two runs on nine hits. Greenwalt did not walk a batter and struck out at least one each inning pitched. He moves to 6-2 on the season.

Zach Woods struck out three in a scoreless eighth inning and Jeff Gogal came on in the ninth to record his first save of the season.

Jackals pitching has struck out at least one batter in 29 consecutive innings.

Bears' starter Omar Javier earns the loss in his Newark debut. The former St. Louis Cardinals farmhand went six-and-two-third innings and allowed three runs on seven hits. He drops to 1-13 in 2012.

The Jackals rallied from an early 2-0 deficit via base hits by a trio of hitters. Bryan Sabatella got the first run on the board with a seeing-eye single in the fifth. Francisco Caraballo and Carlos Guzman then brought in the tying and go-ahead runs in the sixth inning.

Another recent Bears' acquisition, former Major Leaguer D'Angelo Jimenez, got the scoring started in the first with an RBI single. Newark then scored in the second after shortstop Mike Richard was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

New Jersey extends its win-streak to three with the victory, while Newark falls for the first time in their last three. Newark is now 22-50 on the year while the second-place Jackals are now 43-29, three games back of the first-place Capitales.

The Rockland Boulders lost 8-2 to the Kansas City T-Bones to move to five games back of the Jackals. New Jersey currently owns the Can-Am League's final playoff spot.

The two sides will face-off in game two tomorrow at Yogi Berra Stadium. Southpaw Craig Clark (5-5, 5.79) heads to the hill for the hometown Jackals. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with the pregame show beginning 10 minutes prior. The fireworks show begins after the last out.
