New Jersey Jackals News Release

History was made in Little Falls Tuesday night.

Twice.

On a surprisingly cool summer night at Yogi Berra Stadium, veteran Isaac Pavlik's 3-0 shutout win over the Quebec Capitales gave the Jackals their 700th win in franchise history and brought them back within two-and-a-half games of first-place Quebec.

Pavlik, a member of the Jackals' pitching staff the past eight seasons, earns his fourth victory of the season and 59th of his tenure here in New Jersey, tying him with Joel Bennett for the Jackals' all-time win record. He went eight innings, surrendered only five hits and stuck out a season high eight batters.

Pavlik broke the Jackals all-time strikeout record earlier this season - also against the Quebec Capitales.

Right-hander Zach Woods came on in relief in the ninth, striking out two and earning the save, the first of his career.

The Jackals entered today on their season's first three-game losing streak, but second baseman Matt Cusick hit the Jackals' Can-Am League leading 51st homer of the season in the top of the 8th to seal the 3-0 victory. The homer was Cusick's first since the Jackals acquired him June 9th.

Chris Henderson got the scoring started with an RBI single. Nick Giarraputo added to the lead in the sixth with an RBI double, giving the third baseman his Can-Am League leading 39th RBI of the season.

Karl Gelinas took the hill for the Capitales in game two of this three-game set. The previously unbeaten Gelinas went six innings allowing two runs on nine hits, striking out three.

For the Capitales, Jonathan Malo went 2-3 on the day with a single and a double. Shortstop Jeff Helps saw his 29-game on base streak snapped after going 0-4 on the day.

With the win, the Jackals move to 22-15 on the season and 700-599 in their franchise history. They're now 20-1 when leading after seven innings.

The rubber-match of this latest set with the Capitales will be tomorrow night at 7:05. Right-hander Kyle Greenwalt (2-1, 4.24) will get the start for the Jackals. John Mariotti (4-1, 3.48) goes for Quebec. Both teams have won four games a piece against each other in 2012.

The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
