Published on June 26, 2012 under Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Rockland 4, Newark 1
Boulders CF Chris Valencia opened the top of the first right against Newark on Tuesday. Batting leadoff, Valencia hit the second pitch he saw over the outfield wall for his third home run of the year. Rockland scored two more runs in the inning and went on to defeat the Bears, 4-1. The homer was Valencia's only hit of the game and his third long ball of the season. On the mound for Rockland, starting pitcher Pat Moran threw eight strong innings, striking out 11 Newark batters while allowing only one run on four hits before handing the game off to reliever Adrian Martin. Martin threw a one-hit ninth to pick up the save. Swinging a bigger bat than the rest of the Newark lineup, Bears LF Burt Reynolds accounted for the only run of the game with a solo shot in the bottom of the third inning. It was Reynolds' fourth four-bagger of the year.
New Jersey 3, Quebec 0
Jackals starting pitcher Isaac Pavlik threw eight shutout innings against Quebec, striking out eight Capitales batters and helping his club to a 3-0 victory. The win was Pavlik's fourth in eight starts and lowered the hurler's season ERA to 3.33. Pavlik got some early run support when C Chris Henderson singled in 3B Nick Giarraputo in the second inning. Henderson and Giarraputo combined to go 5-for-7 with a run and two RBI. Giarraputo led all batters in hits, going 3-for-4. Jackals 2B Matt Cusick closed out the scoring in the eighth inning with his first home run of the year, his second hit and second run of the game.
Grand Prairie 10, Worcester 7
With the score tied at seven runs apiece in the top of the ninth inning, Grand Prairie scored three runs on the back of two extra-base hits, including a three-run homer from DH Andres Rodriguez. The AirHogs wound up defeating Worcester, 10-7. Rodriguez went 3-for-5 and raised his season average to .314. The Tornadoes scored seven third-inning runs, including a three-run homer from C Alex Trezza. But with the AirHogs pitching staff blanking Worcester the rest of the way, the lineup for Grand Prairie took full advantage of the comeback opportunity. AirHogs reliever Griffin Bailey threw a perfect eighth inning to pick up the win, keeping his season ERA at zero.
