New Jersey Jackals News Release

On a calm, clear day in Little Falls, the Jackals lost to the Quebec Capitales 4-3 in 14 innings, upstaging Isaac Pavlik record-breaking performance. He passed Joel Bennett for the Jackals' all-time strikeout record with his 633rd career strikeout in the second inning.

In his eighth season with the club, Pavlik remains a win shy of Bennett's all-time record of 59. He got the no-decision today.

Trailing in the bottom of the ninth, third baseman Nick Giarraputo launched a solo shot to left field to tie the game up at three. The two teams would remain scoreless until the top of the 14th when a Jonathan Malo home run broke the 3-3 tie.

Two Quebec runs came off of Pavlik in the top of the seventh inning. The run in the eight stemmed from Malo and Josue Peley singles.

Staff ace Karl Gelinas started for the Capitales. Gelinas, whose five wins lead the Can Am League, did not earn the decision, but pitched seven innings of four-hit ball.

Carlos Guzman continued his hot hitting with a 4-6 day, including a solo shot to center field in the fifth and an RBI single in the seventh. His 4-6 day gives him eight hits in his last ten at bats.

Plenty of Jackals fans were on-hand for Pavlik's record-breaking performance, with 4,003 fans in attendance, a new season high, for the first Saturday home game of the season.

With the win, the Capitales leapfrog the Jackals back into first place, their 18-10 record leading the 17-10 Jackals in the Can-Am standings.

The finale of the three-game set will take place on tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch slated for 2:05. Kyle Greenwalt (2-1, 4.57 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for the Jackals, while the Capitales will send out John Mariotti (3-1, 3.19).
