Patterson, Tolleson make USL-1 Team of the Week
August 18, 2009 - USL First Division (USL-1)
North Carolina FC News Release
CARY, N.C. - Carolina goalkeeper Caleb Patterson and defender Jeremy Tolleson were selected to the USL-1 Team of the Week for Week 19, the USL-1 announced Tuesday.
It's the second straight week Patterson has been selected the USL-1's Goalkeeper of the Week, while it's Tolleson's first selection of the season, making him the 16th different RailHawk to be honored in 2009. This is also the sixth straight week at least one RailHawk has been recognized by the league, and it's the eighth occasion where more than one player has made the weekly honors this season.
"It's a good reflection the fact we went to Vancouver and got another clean sheet. Caleb and Jeremy were two of the best performers, but all of the defenders did really well in that game," said Carolina coach Martin Rennie. "Jeremy's probably been our most consistent defender all season long, and it's good to see Caleb in there two weeks in a row. He's had a lot of clean sheets, and he keeps getting better, which is what you'd expect for a young player."
Patterson had seven saves in the RailHawks' 0-0 draw at Vancouver on Saturday. It was his second straight seven-save performance and third of the season. In 11 USL-1 matches, Patterson has gone 6-2-3, with eight shutouts and a 0.455 goals against average.
Tolleson played a vital role in the central defense on Saturday night, keeping the Whitecaps at bay as they peppered 22 shots in Patterson's direction and also earned 10 corner kicks. The shutout was the RailHawks' league-leading 14th of the season. Since missing the first five games of the season while recovering from a foot injury, Tolleson has appeared in 16 straight USL-1 matches (17 overall), logging 1,528 minutes and helping the RailHawks hold their opponents to 0.588 goals per game and 11 shutouts when he's in the lineup.
The RailHawks (13-5-4) have won their last five matches by shutout and they've not allowed a goal in 490 minutes, nine short of the club record they established earlier this season. They will take that shutout streak and a five-match unbeaten streak (4-0-1) into Tuesday night's match against Vancouver at WakeMed Soccer Park. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
