
Battery set for Whitecaps

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery takes on the defending USL1 champions, the Vancouver Whitecaps Thursday night (August 20) at Blackbaud Stadium; gates open at 6:30 PM with kick off set for 7:30 pm. The Battery (12-4-8, 44 points) enters the game in second position in the USL First Division four points behind the Portland Timbers.
Charleston's last league match was a 4-1 win versus the Cleveland City Stars in game played last Tuesday night at Blackbaud Stadium. Tsuyoshi Yoshitake (2), Scott Buete and Stephen Armstrong supplied the goals as the Battery won its twelfth game of the season.
Vancouver (7-9-5, 26 points) enters the week in 7th position one point ahead of the Miami FC Blues; the top seven teams advance to the post-season. The Whitecaps play in Cary, NC versus the Carolina RailHawks Tuesday night.
This is the third game of the season between the Whitecaps and the Battery; the first game ended in a 0-0 tie, Charleston won the second 2-1. Both previous matches were played at Swangard Stadium in Vancouver.
Charleston Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser will be without midfielder Chris Williams who serves the second game of a two-match suspension Thursday night.
The Vancouver Whitecaps are led by second year head coach Teitur Thordarson who got off to a fast start in the USL in 2008 posting a 18-9-8 record on the way to winning the USL title.
The Vancouver roster includes 2008 Battery defender Marco Reda who joined the Whitecaps after being released by Charleston. Vancouver also picked up former College of Charleston defender Wes Knight.
Yoshitake name to USL First Division Team of the Week
Midfielder Tsuyoshi Yoshitake has been named to the USL First Division team of the week following his two goals in last weeks win versus the City Stars. Yoshitake has scored five goals and added four assists in 17 games played.
A native of Mie Prefecture, Japan, Tsuyoshi Yoshitake is in his first year with the Battery after spending the past two years with Japanese Club Tokyo Verdy 1969 (J1).
Phone book Recycle night presented by AT&T Real Yellow Pages
It's Phone Book Recycle Night on Thursday presented by AT&T Real Yellow Pages and fans can get one free admission to the game with each old phone book they bring to the stadium to recycle. It's also a Thirsty Thursday with $2 drafts all evening in the Charleston Battery Beer Garden.
