Pats Win Over Hitmen, 5-3

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen continued the homestand Wednesday night welcoming the Regina Pats to the Scotiabank Saddledome. A strong four goal first period for Regina would secure the visitors a 5-3 win.

It was Oliver Tulk who opened the scoring on the power play on Calgary's first shot of the game. That would be Calgary's lone goal until the third period. Regina would go on to score four goals in the first, three of which were on the power play. Goals were seen from Sam Oremba, Anthony Wilson, Tanner Howe and Zach Moore.

Despite out shooting Regina 17-11 in the second period, Calgary would be kept off the scoresheet. Jaxsin Vaughanwould net one more in the second to make it 5-1 for Regina. Keets Fawcett finally put Calgary back on the board in the third period with his 15th of the season. Also netting his 15th tally of the season was Ethan Moore, following up just a minute later putting Calgary within two. The comeback effort was halted with a double minor high-sticking penalty taken by Calgary, forcing the home team to finish the game on the kill. Shots finished up 41-34 in favour of Calgary.

Coming off a four-point performance last Sunday, Ben Kindel earned second star with three assists in tonight's contest. The forward now sits with 44 points in his rookie season. Calgary is currently outside the playoff picture, one point behind the Prince Albert Raiders with three games in hand, and two points behind the Lethbridge Hurricanes for seventh in the Eastern Conference.

Calgary now faces a two-game home ice weekend starting on Friday, Feb. 9 with a visit from the Medicine Hat Tigers. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome for Canadian Blood Services Night. Then on Saturday afternoon it's a 2:00 p.m. puck drop at the Scotiabank Saddledome for a date with Moose Jaw Warriors for the fourth annual 'Every Child Matters' Game.
