Regina Pats News Release
First Period
The Raiders opened the game with three consecutive shots on Hewitt, but the Pats came back and eventually built up momentum of their own. Raiders Mark McNeill gave the Pats their first powerplay opportunity of the game at 15:31. The Blue and White registered two shots on goal during their man advantage, but failed to capitalize. The game remained scoreless midway through the opening frame. Just as it appeared that both teams were headed to the dressing room even strength, Jobke was called for hooking. His penalty came with 26-seconds to go in the first stanza. The buzzer sounded with the Blue and White ahead on the shot clock, 8-7. Neither team found the back of the net at the end of 20-minutes.
Second Period
Despite the man advantage for the Raiders to start the second period, it was Scheidl that tallied the first goal of the game. Scheidl's shorthanded marker was assisted by Stephen Hak and Hewitt just 25-seconds into the period. Twenty-eight seconds later, Jayden Hart responded for the visitors on the powerplay. The early scoring didn't stop there. Braden Christoffer's centering pass deflected off a Raiders' defenseman and trickled over the goal line. Christoffer's goal at 17:33, which gave the Pats a 2-1 lead, was assisted by Trent Ouellette. Prior to the television time out, Stephenson found Scheidl from behind the net where Scheidl finished off the tape to tape pass with his second of the period. Jobke continued the Pats offensively dominant period with a sweet wrist shot over the blocker of Andy Desautels. Luke Siemens replaced Desautels in net after Jobke's goal at 5:19. The goaltender change didn't matter, though, as Emil Sylvegard scored the Pats fifth goal of the period just over two minutes later. Dyson Stevenson and Ouellette picked up assists on Sylvegard's goal. McNeill scored for the Raiders with 1:15 left in the frame. Klimchuk concluded the period with a powerplay goal to beat the buzzer with two-seconds left. The wild second frame concluded with the Pats ahead 6-2.
Third Period
Both teams had powerplay opportunities early in the third, but failed to convert on their chances. The Pats went back on the man advantage at the 10:20 mark. On the powerplay, Scheidl had a breakaway chance to complete the hat-trick, but Siemens came up big and prevented the goal. The 5038 fans at the Brandt Centre gave the Blue and White the extra momentum they needed to hold onto their commanding lead. The Pats eventually wrapped up the contest with a 6-2 win over their East Division rivals.
