Pats take series from Ducks
June 4, 2006 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., June 4, 2006) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Somerset Patriots, 7-3, on Sunday afternoon.
Somerset lit the scoreboard with a three spot in the third and never looked back, adding three runs in the fourth and one in the sixth. Long Island cancelled the bid for the shutout in the seventh as three runners crossed home plate to come within four. That was as close as they'd come, however, as the Patriots bullpen came on and tossed a scoreless final two frames.
Andy Van Hekken (1-3) picked up the win for the Patriots after allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five over seven innings. Andrew Lorraine (1-1) absorbed the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits and two walks with five strikeouts in a six inning outing. Kevin Mannix (2.0 IP) and Tim Cain (1.0 IP) kept the Patriots scoreless over the game's final three frames.
On the afternoon, Elvis Pena and Mel Stocker combined for four of the Ducks six hits. Stocker singled and tripled to extend his hitting streak to 13 games, which is tied for the longest in the Atlantic League this season (Tino Sanchez, Bridgeport). Pena, Jimmy Goelz and Greg Connors each drove in a run.
After an off-day on Monday, the Ducks will head on a six-game road trip starting on Tuesday in Lancaster. After the three-game tilt with the Barnstormers, Long Island will head to Camden for a three-game weekend series with the Riversharks. The Ducks return home on Tuesday, June 13 to take on the Barnstormers and two-time American League MVP Juan Gonzalez will make his Citibank Park Ducks debut. That evening, the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Drum Beaters courtesy of Wood Kingdom. Tickets for this and all Ducks home games can be purchased by stopping by the Citibank Park Box Office in person (M-F, 10-6; Saturdays 10-2), visiting www.liducks.com or by calling 631-940-TIXX today.
