Regina Pats News Release
First Period
On Fan Appreciation Night, the Pats repaid the Brandt Centre faithful with an early go-ahead goal 4:17 into the first period. Marc McCoy's powerplay tally was his eighth goal of the season. Trent Ouellette picked up the lone assist on the play. The home team went back on the powerplay with 4:16 left in the opening frame. Less than a minute into the man advantage, Scheidl sniped his 40th goal of the season. The Pats' second powerplay marker of the period was assisted by Stephenson and Klimchuk. Hewitt's nine saves and the Pats perfect powerplay gave them a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Second Period
Midway through the second, the Pats went on the penalty kill for the second time of the game. Unfortunately, though, Jack Rodewald was called for boarding 21 seconds after Sean Whelan's penalty expired. The Blue and White killed off Rodewald's minor handily, but Adam Lowry struck for the Broncos with 2:25 left in the period to cut the Pats' lead in half. After 40 minutes, the Pats led on the scoreboard 2-1. The shot clock was even up, 15-15.
Third Period
Just over two minutes into the third period, Hewitt got a piece of Richard Nedomlel's shot, but the puck trickled over the goal line to even the score up, 2-2. The Pats responded with a hard forecheck and numerous scoring opportunities, but Laurikainen stood tall between the pipes. Jobke was called for tripping with 7:54 left in the game. Hewitt made five saves on the penalty kill to keep the game tied. Both teams battled hard for the go-ahead goal, but neither found the back of the net. Regulation ended with the two teams tied 2-2.
Overtime and Shootout
Overtime solved nothing, thus a shootout was needed to determine a winner. Burroughs and Connor Gay scored for the Pats, but it was Coda Gordon that scored the decisive tally. The Broncos edged the Pats in a shootout, 3-2.
The Regina Pats Hockey Club would like to thank all of the fans for their support this season!
