Pats Look to Get Back in the Win Column on Friday

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats (6-8-0) host the Edmonton Oil Kings (10-3-3) on Friday night at 7:00 p.m., inside the Brandt Centre.

The Pats four game winning-streak came to a close on Wednesday night as the club suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Red Deer Rebels in front of a season high crowd of 5,692 at the Brandt Centre.

The Rebels took a 3-2 lead in the second, scoring short-handed and held on in the third, despite the Pats outshooting the Rebels 13-6 in the third and 34-6 overall. Tanner Howe scored his fifth and third in two games while Stanislav Svozil scored his first in the WHL on the power play. The Pats went 1-for-2 on the man advantage and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

For the Edmonton Oil Kings, they are coming off a 4-2 win over the Prince Albert Raiders on Wednesday night. They got goals in that game from Simon Kubicek, Carter Souch, Dylan Guenther and Jakub Demek while Sebastian Cossa made 41 saves. They've played two games (1-0-1) through their four game road trip against the Eastern Division which wraps up on Saturday in Moose Jaw. The Oil Kings have won three of their last five games, beginning the month of November with a 3-1-1 record.

Guenther and Cossa are two big names to watch out for heading into tonight's matchup as Guenther was selected ninth overall by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2021 NHL Draft, while Cossa was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings 15th overall in the 2021 NHL draft. The club also received Jake Neighbours back from the St. Louis Blues after the 2002 born forward scored one goal and one helper in nine NHL games this season. He was previously drafted by the Blues with the 26th pick of the 2020 NHL draft.

This will mark the first of four meetings this season and first of two in the first half on home ice.

Last season, the Regina Pats did not play the Edmonton Oil Kings as they were not in the Subway Hub Centre. The last time these two clubs met was on February 22nd, 2020, with the Oil Kings defeating the Pats 2-1 in overtime at the Brandt Centre. The Pats went 1-2-1 in the 2019-20 season against Edmonton and are 2-5-2 over the last nine meetings since the 2018-19 season and 1-2-1 at home.

178: Faceoff wins for Pats captain Logan Nijhoff is the second highest total in the WHL behind of Prince Albert's Reece Vitelli (204)...he went 19-34 on the faceoff dot on Wednesday against Red Deer and holds 56.2 faceoff win percentage this season.
