Pats Grab Franchise Win #2500 with 4-2 Victory Over Tigers

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats defeated the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-2 to capture franchise victory number 2500 on Wednesday inside the Brandt Centre.

Ewan Huet made 32 saves on 34 shots, with 16 of those saves coming in the third period to secure the 4-2 win, as the Pats improve to 3-2-1 on the season while snapping their three game losing-streak.

The Pats took a 4-0 lead into the third period after they got goals from four different players, with three goals coming in the first period. Zack Stringer (1G-1A), Parker Berge, Zackary Shantz and Cole Temple all found the back of the net in the win.

The Tigers made a late push in the third, scoring two unanswered goals with Cayden Lindstrom and Brayden Boehm scoring for Medicine Hat. The Tigers had to make a goaltending change after one, as Ethan McCallum made his first WHL start, allowing three goals on 14 shots. Evan May played the final two periods, allowing one goal on 13 shots. The Tigers suffer their first regulation loss of the year, falling to 3-1-1.

THE GOALS

First Period

1-0 Pats at 8:34 - Zack Stringer (1), assisted by Tanner Howe & Layton Feist (PP) // Howe's shot went wide of the Tigers' net and it caromed out to the front of the net and Stringer got a piece of the puck and deflected it past McCallum to give the Pats a 1-0 lead.

2-0 Pats at 16:53 - Parker Berge (2), assisted by Braxton Whitehead & Corbin Vaughan // Whitehead passed the puck to Berge at the point and his long-distance shot beat the Tigers goaltender to extend the lead to two at 2-0.

3-0 Pats at 18:47 - Zachary Shantz (1), assisted by Zack Stringer // A Pats two-on-one had Stringer send a pass in front to Shantz and he chipped it past McCallum to give the Pats a 3-0 lead late in the first period.

Second Period

4-0 Pats at 18:03 - Cole Temple (3), assisted by Sam Oremba // Oremba's shot from high in the slot is neatly tipped out of the air by Temple and past May to give the Pats a 4-0 lead late in the second period.

Third Period

4-1 Tigers at 1:05 - Cayden Lindstrom (4), assisted by Reid Andresen & Oasiz Wiesblatt (PP) // The Tigers found themselves on a partisan two-on-one with Lindstrom finishing the play to get the visitors on the board, now trailing 4-1.

4-2 Tigers at 18:54 - Brayden Boehm (2), assisted by Shane Smith & Reid Andresen // Boehm finished off a mad scramble in front of the Pats net to pull the Tigers to within two with just over a minute left in the contest.

JUST NOTES

Zack Stringer picked up his first points of the season on Wednesday when he notched a goal and an assist.

Zachary Shantz scored his first career regular-season goal in the first period.

Corbin Vaughan has points in three straight contests (2G-1A).

Ewan Huet played in his first regular season game at home making 32 saves in the win.

The Pats have now received goals from 12 different players this season on Regina's 24 goals for. 17 different players have now gathered at least a point for the Pats this season.

The Pats snapped an 0-14 streak with a power play goal tonight.

The win was victory #2500 in franchise history.
