Regina Pats News Release

Regina, Saskatchewan - The Regina Pats (18-11-1-0) met the Swift Current Broncos (16-13-0-4) for the fourth time this season with Pats falling by a 6-4 score.

In search of their sixth straight win, the Pats had to contend with the Broncos' third ranked powerplay in the early going. With two consecutive powerplays, the Broncos best chance came when Colby Cave tipped the puck just wide and later in the set when Daniel Wapple was forced to make a diving glove save. Scoring didn't come until later in the frame when Jared McAmmond opened up Austin Wagner for a great chance, but his shot hit the post. Adam Brooks found the high bounce and on a hop off the ice, batted it in on the backhand for the opening goal 13:38 in. The Blue and White added some insurance when Patrick D'Amico showed strength on his skates to spin off a check, dashed to the net and got a shot away while falling to the ice. The attempt found its way by Landon Bow to put the Pats up 2-0 with two minutes left. The Pats carried the 2-0 lead into the break despite trailing the shots 18-12 in the frame.

The second period belonged to the home side as the Broncos would score four times to take a two goal lead into the third. The scoring opened on a wild bounce as the puck deflected twice to get by Wapple with credit going to Max Lajoie just one minute in. Five minutes later, Brett Lernout spotted daylight through the crowd and hit twine with a shot from the point on the powerplay to tie the game. The Blue and White continued to struggle with the puck and a giveaway in their own slot ended up in the back of the net courtesy of Jake DeBrusk eight minutes into the period. DeBrusk struck again in the final minute after Carter Rigby made a nice play to hit the forward who beat his man to the Pats goal. The Broncos carried the 4-2 lead to the third period controlling the shots 37-22 after forty.

Trying to shake things up, the Pats sent Tyler Brown between the pipes. He was welcomed by Brycen Martin who stepped in alone from the faceoff circle and snapped the puck by the backup tender one minute into the period. Just one minute later, Kyle Burroughs fired a shot off Bow's far pad and Sam Steel buried the rebound. The Pats pulled within one when Braden Christoffer barreled to the goal and finished on the backhand. The Queen City Kids pressed the rest of the way, but couldn't find the equalizer and Jake DeBrusk finished his hat-trick by scoring into the empty net with 1.5 seconds left for a 6-4 final score. The final shots sat 43-35 in favour of the Broncos.

The Pats look to get back into the win column Saturday when they face the Saskatoon Blades at the SaskTel Centre. Tune into that game on 620 CKRM or WHL Live Web TV at 6:40 p.m.
