Everett Silvertips News Release

KENNEWICK - Matt Fonteyne scored two goals in regulation and Austin Lotz was again unbeaten in the shootout as the Everett Silvertips pulled out a 4-3 win over the Tri-City Americans Tuesday night at the Toyota Center. The Silvertips are now 4-1 in shootouts and 18-7-3-1 overall this season heading into a weekend of back-to-back home games.

Fonteyne scored both goals in the second period to give Everett one-goal leads before Tri-City evened the score both times. Kohl Bauml netted the other 'Tips goal, while Jake Mykitiuk had his first Silvertips points with two assists and Carter Cochrane earned his first point of the year with an assist. Austin Lotz (14-5-1-1) made 30 saves through regulation and overtime and stopped all six Tri-City shooters before Carson Stadnyk scored the only goal of the shootout. Lotz has stopped 25 of the last 26 shootout attempts he has faced.

The Silvertips played well in the opening 20 minutes despite surrendering the game's first goal to Brian Williams during Tri-City's second powerplay at the 8:45 mark. Everett quickly countered off the rush as Kohl Bauml cut from the left boards across the goal mouth before slipping a backhand shot under Evan Sarthou's pad to even the score. The 'Tips held a 12-6 shot edge in a 1-1 game after the first.

The Americans outshot Everett 7-2 early in the second period, but the score was unchanged until Matt Fonteyne scored his second of the year from the low slot at 13:09 to put the 'Tips ahead 2-1. Richard Nejezchleb tied the score again on a pretty goal with 1:08 left in the period, cutting through the defense and beating Lotz with a backhand shot from a sharp angle. Fonteyne helped the Silvertips re-gain the lead just 29 seconds later however, receiving a pass from Jake Mykitiuk and wristing a shot past the glove of Sarthou to put the visitors ahead 3-2 after two.

Once again the score was tied after Williams scored his second goal of the night less than five minutes into the third to make it 3-3. The Ams outshot Everett 10-6 in the third and then 5-1 in overtime as this time the tie remained up to a shootout. Austin Lotz stopped all six Tri-City shooters as another shootout went to extra rounds without a goal before Carson Stadnyk scored on a stick-side wrist shot to give the 'Tips a 4-3 victory.

Final shots were 33-26 for the Americans, who got 22 saves in regulation and overtime and five more in the shootout from Evan Sarthou (2-3-0-1). Everett finished 0 for 2 on the powerplay, while Tri-City was 1 for 5.

The 'Tips will now return home for back-to-back games at XFINITY Arena this weekend. Everett plays host to the Prince George Cougars Friday at 7:35 pm before facing the Americans for the second time in five days Saturday night at 7:05. This weekend's games are the last two opportunities for fans to donate to our 2014 Christmas House Holiday Drive.
