Regina Pats News Release
Regina, Saskatchewan - The Regina Pats (1-0) scored three first period goals en route to a 4-2 victory over the Swift Current Broncos (0-1) in Game One of the Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals.
In the first, Glenn Gawdin quickly put the visitors ahead when a shot deflected off the backboards, straight to his stick with Pats goaltender Daniel Wapple out of position. Patrick D'Amico gave the Blue and White some much needed momentum when he slid home a feed from Nathan Mortlock to knot the game at one apiece midway through the first. With little time left on the clock, Taylor Cooper dished to D'Amico, who then sent it across to Pavel Padakin, where the forward made no mistake to put the Pats up by one. Padakin struck again with 27 seconds left in the frame to make it 3-1 after 20 minutes. It took the Broncos over 10 minutes into the second to pull within one courtesy of Jay Merkley. The visitors' forward potted the lone goal of the period. Braden Christoffer scored an empty net goal in the third to seal the 4-2 victory.
