Patriots Top Riversharks 5-2

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the Camden Riversharks 5-2 before 5,043 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening.

The Riversharks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a solo home run by right fielder Richie Robnett (10).

The Patriots tied up the game with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Designated hitter Josh Pressley was hit by a pitch and later scored on an RBI groundout by catcher Jason Belcher.

Somerset took the lead with run in the bottom of the third inning. Center fielder Wayne Lydon doubled and came around to score on an RBI single by first baseman Joe Burke for a 2-1 advantage.

The Patriots extended the lead on a solo home run by third baseman Jeff Nettles (5) to make the score 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Camden cut the lead to 3-2 with a run in the top of the eighth inning. Pinch hitter Estee Harris drew a walk, advanced to second on an error, and scored on an RBI single by designated hitter Brian Burgamy.

Somerset added two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning after two consecutive infield hits by right fielder Joe Holden and Lydon. Burke followed with an RBI bunt single to plate Holden. Lydon scored on an RBI single by second baseman Matt Hagen to give the Patriots a 5-2 advantage.

Patriots starter Jason Monti (4-6) picked up the win after allowing a run on two hits in six innings pitched. Riversharks starter Mike Madsen (2-2) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on six hits in seven innings pitched. Scott Williamson earned his eighth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.

The Somerset Patriots 2010 Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Wednesday when the Patriots take on the Camden Riversharks at 7:05 pm.
