
Patriots take three of four from Warriors

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the Road Warriors 3-1 at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening to take three of four in the series.
The Patriots broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Center fielder Patrick Boran drew a walk and scored from first on an RBI double by designated hitter Henri Stanley to give Somerset a 2-1 lead.
The Road Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Right fielder Bryan Goelz singled, stole second base, and scored on an RBI single by designated hitter Manny Mejia.
The Patriots tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Shortstop Kevin Nicholson and third baseman Jeff Nettles drew walks and right fielder Ryan Radmanovich followed with an RBI single up the middle.
Somerset added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Left fielder Larry Barnes and first baseman Jim Burt drew walks and second baseman George Sandel drove home Barnes with an RBI single to left field to increase the lead to 3-1.
Patriots starter Ben Crockett (5-4) picked up the win, allowing an earned run on five hits and a season high nine strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Road Warriors reliever Ceasar Herrera (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on two hits in two innings pitched. Mike Johnson earned his fourth save of the season for Somerset with a scoreless ninth inning pitched.
The 2006 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, July 14th when the Patriots return to Commerce Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 pm game against the Bridgeport Bluefish. The game includes a Post Game Fireworks Show presented by Embarq.
