
Patriots make it two in a row with 5-3 win

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the Camden Riversharks 5-3 before 6,325 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening.
Somerset broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Designated hitter Kevin Nicholson and left fielder Larry Barnes singled and both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by third baseman Jeff Nettles. After an intentional walk to right fielder Ryan Radmanovich loaded the bases, catcher Travis Anderson hit a two run single to give the Patriots a 5-3 lead.
The Patriots took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Center fielder Patrick Boran doubled and scored on an RBI single by Nicholson. Barnes followed with an RBI double to score Nicholson.
The Patriots added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Nettles drew a walk and scored on an RBI double by first baseman Jim Burt to make the score 3-0 Somerset.
Camden tied the game with three runs in the top of the seventh inning. Second baseman Lino Connell and third baseman Denny Abreu each singled and first baseman Ryan Jones drew a walk to load the bases. Catcher John Pachot then doubled to drive in three runs and tie the game at 3-3.
Patriots reliever Andy Pratt (1-0) picked up a win in his first appearance as a Patriot, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings. Camden starter Ryan Costello (2-4) suffered the loss, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits in over six innings pitched. Mike Johnson earned his third save of the season for Somerset with a scoreless ninth inning pitched.
The 2006 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Tuesday, June 27th when the Patriots return to Commerce Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 pm game against the Bridgeport Bluefish. The game includes Health Fair Night presented by Somerset Medical Center. The first 2,000 fans will also be able to play Modell's Baseball Bingo.
