
Patriots make it four in a row with 8-5 win over Warriors

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Road Warriors 8-5 at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Wednesday evening.
The Road Warriors took a 5-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Second baseman Teuris Olivares doubled, first baseman Mike Huggins drew a walk, and catcher Manny Mejia followed with an RBI double. Left fielder Bernie Gonzalez drove in Huggins on an RBI single that advanced Mejia to third base. Right fielder Jason Bryan's sacrifice fly plated Mejia and designated hitter Sandy Aracena and third baseman David Housel followed with RBI singles.
Somerset cut the lead to 5-3 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. First baseman Travis Anderson had an inside the park home run (3) to left field. Third baseman Patrick Boran drew a walk and advanced to second and third on wild pitches. Center fielder Elliott Ayala then drew a walk and both runners scored on RBI singles by shortstop Kevin Nicholson and right fielder Ryan Radmanovich.
The Patriots tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Ayala walked, stole second base, and advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Nicholson drew a walk and Radmanovich followed with an RBI single to plate Ayala. Nicholson scored on a sacrifice fly by left fielder Larry Barnes.
Somerset broke a 5-5 tie with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Catcher Tommy Rojas hit a solo home run (4) to right field. Anderson and Ayala both singled and were driven in on Nicholson's two run double.
Patriots reliever Jason Olson (5-4) earned the victory with seven strikeouts in four scoreless innings pitched. Road Warriors reliever Julio Guerrero (2-1) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on three hits in one inning pitched. Patriots reliever Hector Almonte earned his 14th save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.
The 2006 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home for the final home game of the 2006 season on Thursday night at 7:05 pm against the Road Warriors. Thursday's game includes a chance for fans to win $10,000 at the ballpark courtesy of Heineken Premium Light and Fan Appreciation Night.
