Somerset Patriots News Release
York, Pennsylvania - The Somerset Patriots (8-16, 50-44) posted 15 hits in a back-and-forth 8-5 win over the York Revolution (18-6, 52-41) Monday night at PeoplesBank Park.
Telvin Nash (29) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run home run to left-center field. Carlos Franco (6) added a two-run shot in the bottom of the third to double the York lead.
Somerset responded with a three spot in the top of the fourth inning. Alfredo Rodriguez got the Patriots on the board with a two-run double before Yovan Gonzalez added a two-out RBI single later in the inning.
The Patriots took the lead the next inning on back-to-back two-out RBI singles from Rey Navarro and Rodriguez. York responded with a run in the home half of the fifth on a Melky Mesa RBI single to tie the game at 5-5.
The tie was short-lived, as Somerset would jump back in front the next half inning. Will Kengor put the Patriots back in front on a RBI double before Edwin Espinal added a sacrifice fly one batter later.
The lead increased to 8-5 in the seventh when Gonzalez added a two-out RBI double. That topped off the scoring for the evening as Somerset's bullpen would toss 4.2 scoreless innings to end the evening.
Rodriguez finished the game 3-for-3 with two walks and three RBI. Navarro, Gonzalez, Kengor and Espinal all added multi-hit efforts.
Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision. Nate Roe (W, 2-1) earned the win 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. Julio Perez (L, 5-2) allowed two runs over 1.1 innings to take the loss. Tyler Cloyd (S, 1) earned the save with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.
The win tied the largest come-from-behind win of the year for the Patriots and ended the Revs eight-game win streak.
The Patriots continue their series against the Revolution Tuesday night. Southpaw Rick Teasley takes the mound for Somerset against York righty Ricky Schafer. First pitch at PeoplesBank Park is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
The 2019 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford continues on the road until Friday, August 9th when the Patriots return home to host the Sugar Land Skeeters. For tickets, stop by the box office located at TD Bank Ballpark, call (908) 252-0700, or visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
