Patriots Crush Blue Crabs 8-1

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots (11-5, 61-25) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (7-8, 49-36) 8-1 Friday evening at TD Bank Ballpark. The Patriots extended their winning streak to seven games.

In the bottom of the first inning designated hitter Michael Burgess blasted a three run home run (5) to give Somerset a 3-0 advantage.

Second baseman Jake Opitz hit into a RBI fielder's choice to get the Blue Crabs on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning making the score 3-1.

The Patriots added a run in the bottom of the third inning as third baseman David Vidal recorded a RBI sacrifice fly to make the score 4-1.

Vidal ripped a two RBI single expand the Patriots lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Somerset scored two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as first baseman Mat Gamel and right fielder Nate Spears each roped RBI singles as the Patriots took a 8-1 lead.

Lucas Irvine earned the win (5-5) tossing six innings while allowing one run on eight hits. Brian Baker sustained the loss (5-6) going 6.1 innings allowing six runs on six hits.
