Lancaster, Pennsylvania - The Somerset Patriots (18-11) split Thursday's single-admission doubleheader against the Lancaster Barnstormers (21-9) at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Somerset took game one 8-3 before a late rally led Lancaster to a 6-5 win in game two.
Game 1:
The Patriots jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Endy Chavez (1) launched a solo home run to right field to start the scoring before Aaron Dudley added a sacrifice fly later in the inning. Chavez increased Somerset's lead to 3-0 in the top of the second with a two-out RBI single.
Tyler Bortnick (2) got the Barnstormers back within two on a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning. Somerset responded the next half inning when Justin Pacchioli raced home on a run-scoring wild pitch.
The Patriots then opened up the game with a three-run fifth inning. Dudley ripped an RBI double to center before Kyle Roller (1) lifted a two-run home run to left-center field. A run-scoring fielding error from Lancaster relief pitcher Matt Marksberry allowed an eighth run to score in the sixth inning.
Vladimir Frias (2) hit a two-run home run in the seventh to get the Barnstormers within five, but that would conclude the scoring.
Cory Riordan (3-1) earned the complete-game win after he allowed three runs over seven innings. Brooks Hall (2-2) yielded six runs (five earned) over 4.1 innings to take the loss.
Game 2:
Somerset opened up the scoring in the bottom of the third inning in game two on a Justin Trapp (1) solo home run to center field. The Patriots later increased their lead to 3-0 on an Alfredo Rodriguez two-run single in the fourth.
Pacchioli stole home on the back-end of a double steal in the fifth inning before Castellanos added an RBI single one batter later that set Somerset ahead 5-0. That ended the scoring for the Patriots.
The Barnstormers began their game two rally with three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Joey Terdoslavich (5) lifted a solo home run to right-center before an RBI double from Anderson De La Rosa and a run-scoring throwing error from Rodriguez made it a two-run ballgame.
Frias (3) led off the top of the seventh inning to bring Lancaster within a run. Later in the inning, an RBI double from Trayvon Robinson and a run-scoring wild pitch put the Barnstormers in front 6-5 and provided the final score.
