Parmer's Clutch Shot Lift Lightning
February 2, 2006 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Rockford Lightning News Release
Marlon Parmer drove the lane with 40 seconds remaining in the game and the Lightning
down by 2 points. Not a single fan was in their seat as Parmer hit a layup over two
Stampede defenders and was fouled by Jermaine Blackburn to send him to the line to
complete the three-point-play. He calmly sank the free throw to give the Lightning
their first lead since the 10:15 mark of the third quarter. Three defensive stops
and three free throws later, the Lightning had their eighth straight win and
twenty-fourth of the season.
Parmer finished the game with 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 13 assists in the 108-104
win over the Idaho Stampede. Roger Powell had a team high 24 points while John
Jackson came off the bench to add 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Lightning to
lead the team to a CBA best 24-8 record this season.
Ronnie Fields tied another Lightning record with his fourth assist of the game and
moved up to a second place tie with Michael Hawkins at 624 career assists in a
Lightning uniform. The veteran guard also added 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals
in the game. Fields is averaging 3.6 steals over the team's last seven games and
has recorded four or more steals in five of those seven games.
Fields now leads the league in steals averaging 2.1 a game (66 total). With Kenyon
Gamble leading the league in blocked shots (2.1 a game), the Lightning now have a
player at the top of each of the major defensive categories. Gamble also leads the
league in field goal percentage, shooting 66.3% from the field. Parmer leads the
league in assists, averaging 7.9 a game. Sidney Holmes leads the CBA in offensive
rebounds with 3.7 a game, and the Lightning have three of the top eight league
leaders in points. Powell is fourth with 22.3, Parmer is just behind at fifth with
22.2, and Ronnie is eighth averaging 20.5 points a game.
