Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Calgary, AB. - Brandon Wheat Kings' netminder Jordan Papirny capped off a successful 2015-16 Western Hockey League regular season Monday by being named the League's Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week.

Papirny, who finished the season among the league leaders in goals against average (2.61), save percentage (.910), wins (31), appearances and shutouts, won all three of his starts last week, posting a 1.33 goals against average, a .944 save percentage with one shutout.

Saturday night's 3-0 shutout against Regina was the sixth of the season and 12th of his WHL career.

That tied him with Tyler Plante for the club's Single Season and All Time franchise record.

Currently in his third WHL campaign with Brandon, Papirny has posted a 98-48-12-7 record in 162 career WHL regular season appearances. Only Plante and Glen Hanlon have played more games in a Brandon uniform.

A former first round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings, Papirny will lead his club into the WHL playoffs later this week when Brandon plays host to games one and two of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series.

Brandon will either play Medicine Hat or Edmonton as the Tigers will host the Oil Kings in a special one game "winner take all" Tiebreaker game on Tuesday night.

Games one and two will be played Thursday and Friday nights at Westman Communications Group Place. Due to the Long Weekend, both games will be 7:30pm starts.

Tickets to both games are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com

Meanwhile Victoria's Tyler Soy was named the WHL's Player of the Week after scoring five goals and 9 points in three games. Soy helped lead the Royals to their first ever WHL regular season title, edging out the Wheat Kings in the final standings.

Brandon captured the Eastern Conference regular season pennant - for the second straight year - by finishing the year with a record of 48-18-4-2, good for 102 points.
