
Royals' Soy Named WHL Player of the Week

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Victoria Royals forward Tyler Soy has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 20th, 2016.
Soy recorded nine points (5g-4a) to go along with a plus-5 rating in three games to lead the Victoria Royals to a perfect 3-0-0-0 record for the week.
On Wednesday, March 16th against the Kelowna Rockets, Soy recorded four points (1g-3a) to earn first star honours and lead the Royals to a 7-4 road win. On Friday, March 18th, Soy scored a pair of goals and added an assist to cap off a three-point outing as the Royals defeated the Everett Silvertips by a score of 4-2. Soy was named the game's first star for his efforts. The following night, Soy capped off a productive week as he notched his 45th and 46th goals of the season to propel the Royals to a 4-1 nod over the Everett Silvertips in closing out the regular season.
The 19-year-old Cloverdale, BC native finished the 2015-16 regular season with 85 points (46g-39a) and a plus-34 rating while appearing in all 72 games this season. The 5-11, 172 lb forward is in his third WHL campaign with Victoria and has amassed 180 points (90g-90a) in 213 career WHL regular season contests.
The WHL has also nominated Jordan Papirny of the Brandon Wheat Kings for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Papirny, a 1996-born netminder from Edmonton, AB posted a record of 3-0-0-0 with a 1.33 goals against average and a .944 save percentage with one shutout. On Tuesday, March 15th, Papirny put in a strong performance as he made 34 saves en route to a Wheat Kings 6-2 victory against the Swift Current Broncos. On Friday, March 18th, Papirny turned aside 16 shots as the Wheat Kings skated to a 6-2 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors. The following night, Papirny was consistent as he backstopped all 17 shots he faced to register his sixth shutout of the season in a 3-0 Wheat Kings victory over the Regina Pats. Currently in his third WHL campaign with Brandon, Papirny has posted a 98-48-12-7 record with 12 shutouts in 162 career WHL regular season appearances.
