November 29, 2022 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Bay Area Panthers News Release
The Panthers have added a big-time playmaker with the signing of running back Calil Wilkins, who brings an impressive resume to the Bay Area.
"What I like about him is that he has great speed and burst through the hole," said Head Coach Darren Arbet. "He can catch the ball so we can go empty using him as a slot receiver. He can make you miss and he can run you over. He has all the tools that make him a special player in the IFL."
Wilkins led Bowie State to Central Intercollegeiate Athletic Association championships in 2019 and 2021. As a senior, he ran for 1,322 yards and scored nine touchdowns while being named First Team All-CIAA. He was named the most valuable player in the '21 championship game and made the Division II All-America team.
For his efforts, Wilkins was named a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, presented annually to the Division II National Player of the Year.
Wilkins had the honor of scoring the first touchdown of the Inaugural HBCU Legacy Bowl in New Orleans in February 22. The college all-star game was created to showcase the best senior athletes from HBCU's for NFL scouts and people around the country who had not seen these men play.
The Maryland native started his career at West Virginia State-named the MEC Offensive Freshman of the Year and as a sophomore earned Second Team All-MEC honors with 935 yards rushing (6.3 yards per carry) with eight touchdowns.
