Panthers Bit by Rattlers
June 6, 2022 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Bay Area Panthers News Release
In an interesting scheduling dynamic, the Panthers played Western conference foe Northern Arizona three times before finally meeting the Arizona Rattlers for the first time (also in the same conference) on Sunday night. Looking at the history of indoor football, the Rattlers have become like royalty, and are back at the top of the league once again this season. Bay Area was not intimidated however, as they competed in another promising game despite coming out on the lesser end of the scoreboard as the clock hit zero.
Key Plays
The Panthers came out guns blazing, with Newman hitting Daniel Crowell Jr. for 22 yards to open up the game. This was the first of two passing touchdowns to Crowell Jr. on the night.
The run game also made its presence known for Bay Area. Gary took this outside handoff in motion for a 17 yard touchdown run to get the Panthers within seven midway through the 3rd quarter.
Arizona reminded everyone why they are the highest scoring offense in the league (52.8 pts/game). Wide receiver Braxton Haley laid out for an incredible 22 yard touchdown reception to seal the game for the Rattlers.
Number of the Game
8.5
In his first season as a Bay Area Panther, Joe Newman has had his ups and downs with flashes of elite caliber quarterback play at times. Sunday was one of his best performances of the season, as Newman was able to throw for 8.5 yards per attempt passing. This is still an impressive feat despite only having ten passing attempts for the game.
Swing back by next time after I recap the rematch between these two squads back home at the SAP center on Saturday, June 4th @ 6:05pm PST. As always, take care. Print Friendly Version
