Pankewicz powers Eagles past Brahmas

March 8, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

Colorado Eagles right wing Greg Pankewicz scored two powerplay goals and assisted on another goal to help push the Colorado Eagles past the Fort Worth Brahmas 4-2 in CHL action Sunday night at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado.

Pankewicz burned the Brahmas twice in the first period with powerplay goals. At the 6:18 mark of the first, after the Brahmas were penalized for having too many men on the ice, Pankewicz scored the first goal of the game to give the Eagles an early lead. Then, at the 18:01 mark of the first, with the Brahmas Steve Reid in the penalty box for tripping, Pankewicz scored another man advantage goal to push the Eagles lead to 2-0 after one.

Fort Worth fought back early on in the second period. Just 25 seconds into the middle frame, Brahmas defenseman Peter Trumbley netted his fourth goal of the season off of assists from Aaron Davis and Jason Reimers. Trumbley's goal was the first score for Fort Worth in over eight periods of play. Less than three minutes after Trumbley got the Brahmas on the board, Fort Worth tied it up at 2 when forward T.J. Warkus scored his ninth goal of the season off of assists from Joey Bastien and Jason Reimers.

Colorado would forge back ahead late in the second period when forward Mike McGhan found the back of the net at the 15:31 mark of the second. Pankewicz picked up the primary assist on McGhan's goal, in the process picking up his third point of the night.

The Brahmas could not rally in the third period, as the only goal scored in the final period was an empty net marker from Colorado rookie forward Karlis Zirnis with just 48 seconds remaining in the game.

Tyler Nilsson was outstanding in the Brahmas net in defeat. Nilsson stopped 39 of the 42 Eagles shots he faced in the game. Eagles goaltender Ryan Bach turned away 24 of the 26 Brahmas shots sent his way.

The loss dropped the Brahmas record to 14-37-9 on the season and pushed the club's current winless streak to twelve consecutive games (0-10-2). With the win, Colorado stayed one point ahead of Bossier-Shreveport in their race for the top overall playoff spot from the Northern Conference.

The Brahmas will stay on the road this week, as they will next play in Oklahoma City on Tuesday night, March 9. Game time will be 7:05 p.m. from the Ford Center in Oklahoma City. The game will be broadcast live by the Brahmas on KTFW 1460 AM with a pregame show beginning at 6:50 p.m. For more information, please contact the Brahmas office at (817) 336-4423.
