Beaudry Named CHL Goalie of the Week for Third Time
March 8, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
ALBUQUERQUE â The Central Hockey League announced earlier today that New Mexico Scorpions goalie Miguel Beaudry has been named the Vaughn CHL Goalie of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 7. It is the third time this season that the 21 year-old native of Verner, Ontario has earned the honor.
Beaudry stopped an amazing 120 of 121 shots last week, good for a .992 save percentage as the Scorpions won all three games. He stopped 33 shots and all four Tulsa attempts in the shootout last Tuesday for a 2-1 Scorpions win over the Oilers. Beaudry stopped all 38 shots in a 6-0 victory over Fort Worth on Friday before stopping 49 Oklahoma City attempts, including 24 in the first period alone, in a 4-0 decision on Saturday.
"It's obvious to see that Miguel played extremely well last week," said Scorpions Head Coach/Assistant General Manager Bill McDonald. "What probably impressed me the most was the way he bounced back after having a bad start the week before against Wichita. He certainly came up big for us, especially against Oklahoma City when they were putting the pressure on us in the first period."
The shutouts were the first back-to-back shutouts by the Scorpions since consecutive whitewashes of San Angelo and Monroe on Jan. 17 and 19, 2001. With three shutouts, he also tied the team record for shutouts in a season, set by Luciano Caravaggio in the 1999-2000 campaign. Beaudry has a current scoreless streak of 162:26; the league record is 222:01 by Indianapolis' Shawn Silver set last season from Nov. 28 to Dec. 7.
Bolstered by his three-game winning streak, Beaudry has snuck into the top 20 in the CHL among goalies. Beaudry is 19th with a 2.88 GAA and is approaching the top ten with a .918 save percentage.
The Scorpions begin a four-game road trip to finish the regular season on Tuesday, March 9 when they travel to West Texas to take on the Odessa Jackalopes. Faceoff is 6 p.m., and the game can be heard on Sports Radio 610 The Sports Animal beginning at 5:45 p.m.
Current season ticket holders can renew their tickets for the 2004-05 season NOW by calling their ticket representative at the Scorpions office, (505) 881-PUCK (7825). If the Scorpions qualify for the 2004 President's Cup playoffs, ticket information will be released at that time.
