Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
JUPITER, FL- The Palm Beach Cardinals blew a ninth-inning lead for the second consecutive night, but ended up with a 9-8 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Stadium.
Palm Beach scored seven runs in the first three frames off of Jupiter starter Matt Goyen, who ended up allowing eight hits and seven runs over three innings. First baseman Randy Roth delivered the big blast in the first inning, hitting a two-run homerun over the left field fence, giving him his first career Florida State League round-tripper.
Cardinals' starter Jose Garcia didn't fair any better than his counterpart, lasting just 2 2/3 innings - surrendering four runs on six hits and issuing three free passes.
The Hammerheads tied the game in the ninth off of reliever Justin Garza, as Brad McCann doubled down the right-field line scoring Jai Miller. Garza (2-0) ended up working a second inning and would be picked up by teammate Matt Dryer. The Cardinals designated-hitter provided a walk-off victory, singling through the hole on the left side, scoring Sean Danielson.
Jupiter closer Jose Garcia (0-6) worked 1 1/3 innings for the loss, allowing two hits and the game-winning run.
