Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
JUPITER, FL- Palm Beach starter Blake Hawksworth threw six shut out innings and Terry Evans delivered the knockout punch, allowing the Cardinals to capture a 4-0 victory against the first place Brevard County Manatees, in front of 3,219 fans at Roger Dean Stadium.
Hawksworth (2-0) has strung together eleven scoreless innings, going back to his last start against the Daytona Cubs on April 13th. After starting the year with a shaky effort against Jupiter, his E.R.A. has dropped to 2.40.
Brevard Manatees manager Ramon Aviles has to be pleased with right hander Yovani Gallardo's start. After giving up a Terry Evans three-run homer in the bottom of the first, Gallardo (1-1) settled down and struck out twelve Cardinals.
The three run blast by Evans was his fourth homerun of the year and he later added a sacrifice fly RBI in the eighth, pushing his RBI total to 15.
Palm Beach (8-5) survived some scary moments in the eighth and ninth with closer Mike Sillman recording the final out, securing the win and collecting his third save.
Brevard County (10-3) came into the series without a road loss, but dropped two of three at Roger Dean Stadium.
The Cardinals will travel to play a three game set against the St. Lucie Mets before starting a six game home stand on Sunday.
