WEEK IN REVIEW FOR THE CARDINALS

Information provided by Tony Suarez, Media Relations for Palm Beach Cardinals Matt Pagnozzi went 4 for 5 and Ty Parker and Joe Mather each added three hits apiece as the Cardinals slugged their way to a 10-6 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads on Saturday night. The Hammerheads jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on a three-run home run by Reggie Abercrombie. The Cardinals fought back with single runs in the second and third to make it 3-2, before Jupiter added three more runs in the fourth for a 6-2 cushion. In the bottom of the fourth, the Cardinals scored four times to tie the game. Simon Williams' leadoff single was followed by a double by Jarrett Hoffpauir that scored Williams. Mike McCoy reached on a throwing error by second baseman Kevin Randel that allowed Hoffpauir to score. The Cardinals put two more runs on the board in the inning on RBI-doubles by Parker and Mather. Mike McCoy singled in the bottom of the fifth to score the go-ahead in Pagnozzi, and that was all the Cardinals would need. They did, however, score three more times in the eighth inning to account for their 10 runs. Cardinals' starter Josh Axelson got the win despite allowing six runs on seven hits in five innings. Axelson also walked five. Hammerheads' starter Craig Molldrem allowed six runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings. Jimmy DeMontel took the loss in relief.

The Cardinals jumped on Florida Marlin Ismael Valdez for five runs in the first and two in the second, and went on the defeat the rival Hammerheads 10-8 on Sunday night. Valdez, making his first rehab start after a broken right fibula kept him out of action all season, lasted just two innings and did not return after a 13-minute rain delay in the bottom of the second. The Cardinals scored all their first inning runs with two outs. Highlighting the inning was a two-run double by Terry Evans. Mike McCoy hit his first home run of the season of Valdez in the second inning to make it a 7-1 game. The Hammerheads battled back and made things interesting in the middle innings. A three-run fourth, which included a two-run home run by Lee Mitchell, cut the Cardinals' lead to 8-5. The Hammerheads plated a single run in the sixth inning to make it 8-6, but the Cardinals added two runs in the bottom of the frame to go up by four runs. Kevin Randel hit his eighth homer of the year in the eighth inning. Mark Worrell pitched the ninth for his 19th save. Cardinals' starter Eric Haberer earned the win despite allowing five runs on 11 hits in five innings. Haberer also struck out five while walking just one.

On Monday, Paul Mildren recorded his seventh win for the Jupiter Hammerheads, as they cruised to an 11-1 victory over the Palm Beach Cardinals. Mildren, who has been sensational since moving into a starter role, pitched 6 plus innings and did not allow an earned run. He gave up 6 hits and struck out 5. The Hammerheads offense took care of the rest. Jupiter scored five runs in the bottom of the 3rd off Cardinals starter Buddy Blair. The runs came on back-to-back RBI doubles from Lee Mitchell and Ryan Bear. Angel Molina added an RBI single, and Kevin Randel chipped in with an RBI double. The big blast for Jupiter came in the fourth, when center fielder Reggie Abercrombie cranked his 15th home run of the year-a two run shot out to the Marlins clubhouse in left. Abercrombie went 2-4 on the night with 2 RBI. Shortstop Jose Campusano also had 2 RBI while going 1-4. Cardinals' starter Buddy Blair took the loss after throwing 4 innings, allowing 8 runs on 9 hits. The Cardinals lone run came on an RBI groundout from catcher Matt Pagnozzi in the 6th. The run was unearned, as it followed a passed ball that allowed Rayner Laya, who had doubled, to advance to third.

Andy Schutzenhofer's walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th gave the Cardinals a 6-5 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads on Tuesday night. Trailing 1-0 in the second, the Cardinals scored twice off Hammerheads' starter James Russ to take the early lead. Ty Parker doubled to start off the inning and was driven home on a single by Terry Evans. Making his first start of the season at home for the Cardinals this season, catcher Brandon Marcelli followed with a double to deep left to score Evans for the second run. In the fourth, Jupiter reclaimed the lead on a two-run home run by Patrick Arlis, his fourth. The Hammerheads also added single runs in the fifth and the seventh to go up 5-2. The Cardinals were able to rally in the bottom of the seventh. Parker led off with his second double of the game, which was followed by a double by Joe Mather that plated Parker. Mather later scored on a groundout by Simon Williams. Rayner Laya and Schutzenhofer led off the eighth with back-to-back singles, and Laya scored on a wild pitch by Hammerheads' reliever Matt Yourkin to tie the game. In the bottom of the 10th, Mike McCoy reached first on what would have been a routine groundout, but the throw was dropped at first base by Juan Figueroa. Laya dropped down a sacrifice to advance McCoy to second, and Schutzenhofer hit a deep fly ball to left center that fell for a single to win the game. Andy Cavazos pitched two perfect innings to earn his first win of the season. Relievers Kevin Ool and Chris Russ also pitched well, with Ool allowing an unearned run in two innings and Russ giving up just one hit in one inning. Cardinals' starter Jose Garcia worked five innings and allowed four runs on eight hits. James Russ allowed two runs and three hits in six innings of work for Jupiter.

Brendan Ryan and Brian Martin each reached on errors and were driven home with a two-out single by Ty Parker. Parker finished 3-for-4 on the day. Kurt Isenberg (7-7) picked up the win for the Blue Jays. He gave up just two unearned runs and four hits in five innings pitched.

Mike MacDonald allowed just two unearned runs and four hits over five innings as the Dunedin Blue Jays defeated the Cardinals 5-2 on Friday night. The Blue Jays scored three times in the fourth inning off Cardinals' starter Eric Haberer. The inning was marked by four softly hit groundballs that found holes for base hits, including one that bounced over the head of second baseman Jarrett Hoffpauir. In total, Haberer (4-3) allowed four runs on seven hits in seven innings of work. For the second night in a row, the Cardinals managed just two unearned runs off Blue Jays' pitching.
