Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

A.J. Ellis hit a lead-off, go-ahead homer in the 6th Inning to give the Vero Beach Dodgers a 3-2 win over the Clearwater Threshers Monday night at Holman Stadium. Chuck Tiffany threw six solid innings to earn his team-leading 7th win of the season. Matt Kemp extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a 2-4 night. The series continues with Camp Day at 12:00 PM Tuesday afternoon.

The Dodgers collected a bundle of hits which yielded few runs early in the game. Of the nine Dodger hits off starter Clary Carlsen, only two came home to score in five innings. Jimmy Rohan was the first to cross home when he led off the third inning with a double. He came home on a Tony Abreu sacrifice fly.

Clearwater went on top the next half-inning when Tiffany issued a leadoff walk to Jake Blalock. Marc Tugwell followed with a home run just over the center field fence - and over the outstretched glove of Jamie Hoffman. But Vero answered in the bottom of the fourth. Cory Dunlap led off with a single to right. An Ellis single brought him home to tie the score. A.J.'s game-winning homer came in his next at bat in the 6th.
